WILDEBEEST LAMP

This whimsical lamp,  sculptural and functional, provides a good ambient light in the corner of a room. It is made with a real wildebeest skull with an extended, war-like, wooden laminated, spike filled snout. This changes the perception of the wildebeest from that of victim to aggressor.

UMBRELLA HAT STAND LAMP

I brought home a Thai umbrella and decided to incorporate it into a lamp. It creates an ambient light within a room or entry way. The base is made from the inner core of a fir tree which had been exposed by African termites, leaving a series of lateral branch nodes onto which wooden knobs […]

METEORITE LAMP

This lamp is a mixture of African hardwoods: mahogany, olive wood and jacaranda. The light source was created by taking a normal outdoor light sphere and making it the focal point of a hand held meteorite. The original inspiration came out of the shape of the piece of jacaranda I carved. Essentially, these are all […]

MAKORAKOSA LAMP

The shade of this lamp is made from a wooden bowl used by the early Zimbabwean miners to pan for gold. The holes drilled in the bowl for filtration of sand grains create perfect exit holes for heat build up within the lamp. The base is made from a section of water cured mopane root […]

WINDSWEPT TABLE

The table’s design came about because of my interests in bonsai and natural geometry; in particular, windswept trees which cling defiantly to inhospitable mountain sides and generate flat pads of greenery, resembling table tops.  The structure of this table is tapered and lighter away from the main stem whilst retaining its strength and balance. There […]

PATCHWORK TABLE

Precious off cuts,  too meaningful to throw away, were the inspiration for this table. I embarked on this feast of joinery which consists of some beautiful scraps of wood and some bent wood, all held together with wooden dowels and hidden tongues;  the finished slab sitting on my trademark animal legs. The table is the […]

MUKWA TABLE

My first table set the tone for the types of shape that I like to use. Evolved out of the need for a functional and strong but decorative table, the legs were inspired by animal posture, angled outward as if the creature were about to leap forward.  I used slabs of silvery brown mukwa from […]

GALACTICA LAMP

My intention here was to form a functional lamp which can delicately place a pool of light in a small area across a long span. The lamp can stand in one corner and the light shine in the other. This whimsical lamp is made out of found parts, shaped timber and commissioned stone. It was […]

SKEKSI ANGLE POISE LAMP

This large lamp is made from a riverine mopane wood stump, mahogany and jacaranda, with a counter weight from Honduran rosewood. It is mounted on a set of  concealed rollers and is fully height and angle adjustable. It is very functional as well as decorative. It casts a perfect reading light exactly where needed.
